Characters List TBA
| Beverly |
Manipulative. Clever rather than intelligent. Speaks a strange language of cliché’s and small-talk borrowed from beauty salons, aggressive. alcoholic? |
Laurence |
Works for an Estate Agents. Nervous, pompous, humourless. A control-freak with no power. Aspirations to be a man of culture. Suffers a fatal heart attack at the end of the play. |
| Angela |
Dense. Frequently says the wrong thing. Poor taste – but aspires to Beverly’s poor taste. |
Tony |
Uncomfortable and lumpen at the prospect of an evening’s small-talk. Ex-footballer with, perhaps, that air of cheap glamour. Probably a bully at home, maybe even a violent one. Laddish and loutish. |
| Sue |
Socially and culturally their superior, she is strangled by her own politeness in their company. On top of her anxiety about her daughter Abigail’s party she has to endure the hospitality and the pity of Beverly. She also represents the easy sophistication and education to which Laurence aspires. |
