LOCAL DRAMA GROUP ANNOUNCES THIS SEASONS PANTO AS ‘BABES IN THE WOOD’
Press release written by Jason Breed.

Being the only local group to provide Leighton Buzzard with a pantomime, Leighton Buzzard Drama Group proudly announces that this seasons pantomime has been cast.

The Drama Group will be performing John Morley’s ‘Babes in the Wood’ in January 2004. The group has been producing the local pantomime in the town for over 50 years and has performed at least 26 of them at the Leighton Buzzard Theatre above the library on Lake Street.

‘Babes in the Wood’ is set in Sherwood Forest and around the fable of Robin Hood. The evil Sheriff of Nottingham has his eyes set firmly on the demise of his nephew and niece so that he can inherit their lands and the only person standing in his way is Robin Hood, who with the help of Maid Marion and his merry men aim to fraught the Sheriff’s plans.

Of course this all happens in a fast moving comical adventure with a large emphasis on the usual slapstick element that Morley’s pantomimes are renowned for. As well as the comedy the musical score contains popular songs old and new to get the audience singing along. With veteran pantomime director Colin Aldous in the driving seat and with musical direction from Barbara Springthorpe, we know that everyone will enjoy ‘Babes in the Wood’ and that it will be a huge success.

Barbara Springthorpe explained why the group’s pantomimes are always successful. ‘It’s because we always put on a good family show which most people prefer to the big celebrity pantomimes in the larger theatres. We find the local population love the combination of intimacy of the local theatre, the dedication of our casts, the ‘locality’ of the production and that we pride ourselves in our professionalism. The feedback from our previous pantomimes tells us so.’

Rehearsals are in full swing and tickets are selling fast with some performances already sold out, so for a great night out full of pantomime fun and frolics book now to see ‘Babes in the Wood’ to avoid disappointment and help support your local theatre.

Performance dates: Thursday 8th, 15th & 22nd January 2004 @ 8pm, Friday 9th, 16th & 23rd January 2004 @ 8pm, Saturday 10th, 17th & 24th January 2004 @ 11am, 2pm & 5pm. Tickets: £7.50 (Concessions £6.00) are available from Leighton Buzzard Theatre Box Office on (01525) 378310.
