The Producer

The Producer makes the Director's vision a reality. He/she will typically take the Director's requirements and translate them into something practical that can be done in time and on budget. A Producer is usually a jack of all trades, a technician or a craftsman at heart but what he must be is ORGANISED!. The Producer will work closely with the Director.

Although the Director will do many of the background tasks (usually the ones concerning the Actors), the Producer will take on most of the rest. This usually means recruiting people for roles like lighting and sound, stage managing and sourcing technical help or tools or large props. The Producer will oversee the construction of the set (if not also the design of it), ensure that the group has access to the theatre for the 'get-in' before the show, liaise with the theatre staff over tickets, etc, etc. Many of these tasks can be delegated if you ask nicely. Typically, a stage crew will assemble itself magically on appointment of a Stage Manager.
